Oats contain an impressive array of natural compounds and proteins that make them particularly soothing for irritated skin by creating a protective layer on the skin’s surface, where the natural skin barrier may be otherwise compromised. Beta glucans in oats have humectant properties and can even support faster wound healing, meaning that they draw in moisture that nourishes dry, itchy and inflamed skin, while gently cleansing. Colloidal oatmeal as an ingredient is used to treat skin conditions including eczema, rashes, and psoriasis.
